Julie brings to clients and boardrooms a combination of skills.

Julie has first class honours degrees in law and Masters in business management.  From 2010 – 2016, she served two terms as Mayor of Hamilton. 

Julie provides advice in all aspects of employment law and is a specialist in independent investigations. She is regularly engaged to conduct employment and workplace investigations,  and independent investigations for local government. She is an expert in local government issues. 

Julie is an experienced board director and Chair and is a Chartered Fellow of the global Chartered Governance Institute. Her board roles include government and local government CCO appointments as well as voluntary not-for-profit and community roles. She also provides governance training, and advice and support to boards about governance practice.

Julie has a strong interest in supporting women into governance and has been Chair of Women on Boards New Zealand since 2018. She regularly speaks at events and on panels about women  and leadership.

In 2016 Julie was one of the first recipients of the Order of Te Arikinui Queen Te Atairangikaahu (Waikato Tainui) for services to Māori.
